What is the Difference RAM and ROM?

RAM (Random Access Memory) and ROM (Read Only Memory) are both types of computer memory. They sound similar and are both very important, but have very different uses.

What is RAM?

Ram stands for Random Access Memory. It is a volatile memory meaning that it temporarily stores data and the data is lost when the power supply to the PC or laptop is turned off. RAM is used during the normal operation of the computer. The reason for transferring the data to RAM is that it is easy and fast to read data from RAM as compared to reading it from the hard drive.

Data in RAM can be modified, erased, or read.

What is ROM?

ROM stands for Read Only Memory. It is a non-volatile memory that is primarily used in booting up a computer, stores information permanently, and does not require a constant source of power. Information is saved even when the power is turned off, unlike RAM.

A good example of ROM is the computer BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a ROM chip found on motherboards that allows you to access and set up your computer system at the most basic level.

Data in ROM can only be read, it cannot be modified or erased.
